Brig. Gen. Albert G. Jenkins, C.S.A.

Gen. Jenkins
The Federals escaped, however, and the Confederates were in possession of the entire town before three o'clock. One of the first to enter the twon was General Jenkins himself. In striking contrast to his men who wore garments of the most unmilitary cut and color, and indeed the men who had nothing but the veriest tatters concelaing but half theri limbs were the majority, General Jenkins wore a handsome uniform with all the usual marks of his rank. His horse was a good bay. In figure Jenkins was as straight as an arrow. About medium height with a sandy beard, fully a foot long and eyes that could look stern or twinkle with good-humor merriment as occasion required, the Shipensburgers agreed that the general looked like good fellow and a gentleman.
General Jenkins (b. 1830, d. 1864) was a "Local" rich boy who made good. Of course, he lost his life at the Battle of Cloyd's Mountain in the process. He was Commander of the 8th Virginia Cavalry--CSA. His brother, a doctor, served as the unit's surgeon.
